Cookie policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Their main function is to remember information about your visit in order to improve your browsing experience, personalise content and analyse site usage.

2. What types of cookies do we use?

At JAPY Around World we use different types of cookies depending on their purpose:

  • Technical cookies: necessary for the basic operation of the website, such as remembering your user session or maintaining site security. Without them, some services could not be provided correctly.
  • Preference or personalisation cookies: allow the site to remember information so it behaves in a certain way, such as your selected language or chosen visual settings.
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand how users interact with the website, which pages they visit, browsing time or possible errors. All information is collected in an aggregated and anonymous way.
  • Marketing or social media cookies: may be used to display relevant content, measure campaign performance or enable interaction with social networks. These cookies are only installed if the user gives their consent.

3. Third-party cookies

Some cookies are managed by third parties, such as analytics providers (for example, Google Analytics) or social media platforms. These third parties may use the information collected for their own purposes, so we recommend reviewing their respective privacy policies.

4. Consent

When you access JAPY Around World, an informational banner about the use of cookies is displayed. Browsing the site implies acceptance of the technical cookies necessary for its operation. For all other cookies, we will request your explicit consent, which you may grant, refuse or manage at any time.

Cookies of the Virtual Campus (campus.japyaroundworld.com)

The following section specifically regulates the cookies used in the JAPY Around World Virtual Campus, available at campus.japyaroundworld.com.

1. Use of cookies in the Virtual Campus

The JAPY Around World Virtual Campus, available at campus.japyaroundworld.com, uses cookies and similar technologies necessary to enable the platform to function, manage user sessions and protect access to the service.

Currently, the Virtual Campus does not use its own cookies for behavioral advertising purposes nor cookies intended to build commercial profiles of users.

Cookies strictly necessary to provide a service expressly requested by the user may be used without the need to obtain prior consent, in accordance with Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002, on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI-CE).

Nevertheless, for reasons of transparency, we provide below information on the main cookies that may be used in the Virtual Campus.

2. Moodle technical and operational cookies

Moodle requires certain cookies to allow users to access the platform and to properly maintain sessions within the Virtual Campus.

  • MoodleSession (JAPY Around World): keep the user's session active while browsing the Virtual Campus. It is necessary to access identified areas and courses. Duration: session.
  • MOODLEID1_ or equivalent (JAPY Around World): remember the username in the login form when the user voluntarily activates the corresponding option. Duration: persistent.
  • MoodleSessionTest or equivalent (JAPY Around World): check certain characteristics related to session and browser cookie management when used by the Moodle configuration. Duration: session.

The exact name of certain cookies may vary depending on the Moodle version, installed plugins and the technical configuration of the Virtual Campus.

The MoodleSession cookie is essential for the operation of the platform. If it is blocked, the user may be unable to log in or properly use certain functionalities of the Virtual Campus.

3. Security cookies and protection against automated access

The Virtual Campus may use protection systems against automated access, bots, fraudulent registration attempts or attacks against login forms.

When Google reCAPTCHA is enabled, this service is provided by Google Ireland Limited.

reCAPTCHA may use cookies or similar technologies and process certain technical information about the device or connection in order to analyze the risk of an interaction and distinguish between legitimate users and automated access.

Among the cookies that may be associated with the service is:

  • _GRECAPTCHA (Google): contribute to the operation of the reCAPTCHA system used to detect automated access and protect forms against fraud, abuse or attacks. Duration: up to approximately 6 months.

The specific installation and duration of reCAPTCHA cookies may vary depending on the configuration of the service and Google's technical policies.

Google may process certain technical information related to the use of reCAPTCHA in accordance with its own terms and privacy policy.

4. YouTube audiovisual content

Certain courses on the Virtual Campus may include videos hosted on YouTube, a service provided by Google.

Whenever technically possible, JAPY Around World will use the enhanced-privacy embedding mode via the youtube-nocookie.com domain.

This mode is designed to reduce the use of tracking cookies before the user interacts with the audiovisual content.

Nevertheless, when the user plays a video, YouTube may store or access certain information on the user's device necessary to provide the content, remember player settings, maintain security or generate certain statistics.

The processing of information carried out directly by YouTube is subject to Google's terms and privacy policies.

5. Analytics and advertising cookies

At the time this policy is published, the Virtual Campus does not use its own advertising analytics or marketing tools such as:

  • Google Analytics 4.
  • Google Tag Manager with unnecessary tracking tags.
  • Meta Pixel.
  • Equivalent behavioral advertising or profiling systems.

For this reason, as long as the Virtual Campus uses only strictly necessary cookies or technologies that may be legally exempt from consent, it will not be necessary to display a consent mechanism for analytics or advertising cookies.

If analytics, advertising, marketing or tracking tools requiring consent are incorporated in the future, JAPY Around World will update this Cookie Policy and enable a consent management system allowing the user to accept cookies, reject them, configure them by category and subsequently modify their choice.

Cookies requiring consent will not be installed before the user has made a valid choice.

6. Third-party cookies

Certain services integrated into the Virtual Campus may belong to third parties. These may include:

  • Google Ireland Limited — Google reCAPTCHA: protection against bots, fraud and automated access.
  • Google Ireland Limited / YouTube: playback of audiovisual content included in the courses.

These third parties may modify the cookies used, their names or their retention periods as their services evolve.

JAPY Around World recommends consulting the privacy and cookie policies of said providers for up-to-date information about their processing activities.

7. How to manage or delete cookies

The user may allow, block or delete cookies installed on their device through the browser's configuration options.

It should be noted that blocking certain technical cookies may prevent the Virtual Campus from functioning properly. In particular, if the cookies necessary to manage the Moodle session are blocked, it may not be possible to:

  • Keep the session active.
  • Properly access courses.
  • Carry out activities.
  • Save certain preferences.
  • Use some platform functionalities.

You can consult the official cookie configuration instructions for the main browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge and Brave.

The configuration options and paths may vary depending on the browser version and device used.

8. International transfers

The use of Google services, including reCAPTCHA and YouTube, may involve the processing of certain information outside the European Economic Area.

Where applicable, these international transfers will be carried out using the mechanisms provided for by European data protection regulations, including adequacy decisions, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for participating entities, or the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

For more information on the processing of personal data associated with these services, please refer to the Virtual Campus Privacy Policy.

9. Changes to this policy

This Cookie Policy reflects the configuration of the Virtual Campus in place at the time of its publication. JAPY Around World may modify it when:

  • New cookies are incorporated.
  • The Moodle configuration changes.
  • New plugins are installed.
  • New external providers are incorporated.
  • Analytics tools are added.
  • Advertising or marketing systems are incorporated.
  • Video services or external content change.
  • The applicable regulations are amended.

When a change involves the use of cookies requiring consent, the corresponding consent management mechanism will be implemented before activating such cookies.

10. Relationship with the general Cookie Policy

This section specifically regulates the cookies used at campus.japyaroundworld.com.

For the cookies used on JAPY Around World's main website, please also refer to the general Cookie Policy available at japyaroundworld.com.

The cookies used on the main website and on the Virtual Campus may differ due to the different functionalities and technologies used in each service.
